North Iceland

If you want to experience Iceland to the fullest, a trip to the North of Iceland might get you a long way. North Iceland is a diverse region, both geologically and culturally — a region where you will find many of Iceland's most fascinating natural treasures.
In the North of Iceland you will find many historical places. One of them is the birthplace of the Iceland's greatest outlaw, in Miðfjörður. North Iceland also has some of the most majestic waterfalls in Iceland, one of them being Dettifoss, Europe's most powerful waterfall. Around Mývatn you will find wild bird life and divine nature and in the area around Askja, a lunar like landscape where Neil Armstrong and the Apollo astronauts prepared for the first moon landing.
Akureyri, often called the capital of the north, offers diverse cultural experience and one of the best ski areas in the winter as well.
