Húsavík in the Winter

Húsavík is a small town in the north of Iceland, situated on the eastern shore of Skjálfandi Bay. In the past 15 years, the town has become a center for whale watching in Iceland, as whales of up to 10 different species frequently enter the bay. Minke whales and Humpback whales are most common in Skjálfandi Bay.

Húsavík is also known for its Norwegian church, consecrated in 1907 and the one of a kind Icelandic Phallological Museum.

Husavik is the largest town and administrative seat of Norðurþing district. As of January 2009 the town has 2279 inhabitants.
