Geysir hot spring area

Geysir is believed to be one of the most powerful geysers in the world, spewing hot water up to eighty meters in the air in its earlier years. The oldest tales of Geysir date back to the year of 1294. It’s believed that Geysir was formed, along with a few other geysers in the area, in a massive sequence of earthquakes. Geysir has mostly been at rest since the year of 1900 but came back strong in the year of 2000 when a earthquake measured 6,5 Richter scale shook its neighbourhood.

Geysir is located in the valley Haukadalur along with several other hot springs, the geyser Strokkur being the most active. Scientists think it was formed in the late 18th century. It spews water every eight minutes or so.
