Þingvellir National Park

Þingvellir National Park is listed as a world heritage site by UNESCO. During early settlement in Iceland, Þingvellir used to serve as a place where the country’s first general assembly gathered, dating back to the year of 930. A law passed in the year of 1928 ensures that Þingvellir will always remain in the hands of the nation as a whole.

Lake Þingvallavatn is Iceland‘s biggest lake and located in the middle of the park. All around it is an impressive landscape, with hills full of rocks, waterfalls, forest and canyons. It has splendid routes for people to have a walk. Þingvallavatn has also become a popular place for diving. The view underwater is even more marvelous than on dry land.
